THE VISIT TO DOLLAH KASSIM - 14th March 2010

DOLLAH Kassim is a fighter deep down inside.

Though still in a coma, he remains stable and is on a breathing machine (a mechanical ventilator) - the 60-year-old former Malaysian Cup legend has so far beaten the odds from a sudden cardiac arrests and is resting well at home.

Visits to Mr Dollah' s apartment were always motivating. His children ( two of whom were in Bartley some years back ) and wife had never failed to remain positive despite the ongoing stress; and are coping  well nursing Mr Dollah, with the aid of a house nurse.

During his hey-day, he was instrumental in coaching our school's football team which went on to win many honours in the games.

In order to help with the family' s hefty medical bills, the OBA has recently raised a total of $750 which was presented to his wife during one of the visits --by MC members Soefian Suradi and Alice Yeh (picture attached).

We all pray and hope that one day; we could all see the complete recovery of Mr Dollah Kassim, the well-known "Gelek King".

OBA DINNER 2009: CELEBRATING THE MUSIC FROM 70s & 80s

1. We had a great time at the a/m dinner. Old friends and classmates, former teachers, staffs and students of the school, invited guests from other alumni and members of the OBA Youth Group ( OBAYG under 25 years ) came together to celebrate another great occasion with good fun, great camaraderie, and high spirit.

2. Lots of prizes were won, interesting costumes dress competition and nostalgic 70/80 music and songs. OBAYG singers gave a beautiful rendition of MJ's "Ben" and " I'll Be There"; and there was singalong -- with songs like " Bengawan Solo"; "Hey Jude" , "YMCA" etc

3. Three Principals of Bartley ( Present and former ) were there to also support the event.

4. The Challenge Trophy for the most turnout was won this year by the Youth Group, with three tables.

5. The dinner ended with an animated and lusty " Yam Seng " by the entire crowd. A most enjoyable evening indeed....!

6 The OBAMC once again thank all those who turned up for the dinner, and our kind donors, and look forward to see all of you in the next OBA function.

Cheers,

Benson, Mrs Mary Bay (Principal), Tan Chye Na ( VP ); Er Siew Shin, and Leo Min Yin

OBA Member Benson Soong ( 1986 - 89 , PhD scholarship student at the Cambridge University UK ) , had been doing part of his thesis ( in Education Methodology and Philosophy ) in Bartley School, Singapore, with the kind support of the Principal and staff.

After a year of fine effort, assisted by senior teachers Ms Er Siew Shin and Leo Min Yin, the completed paper has been accepted for publication, and later for presentation at the MOE-organized International Conference on Teaching and Learning with Technology ( ICTLT ) , where the work will be presented  to "thought leaders, policy-makers, innovative practitioners, and cutting-edge school leaders from across the Asia-Pacific Region and around the world".

This coming MOE-organised event is a testament of the superior results Benson and the school have produced (thus far, his presentations/publications have been international in nature).

Benson will be leaving Singapore for Cambridge on the 27th Sep  for the final leg of his studies, and had organised a nice lunch get-together in the school on Fri 25 Sep as a gesture of appreciation for the school's support.

BARTLEY TEACHERS' DAY DINNER - Friday 28 August 2009

1 Members of the OBAMC and the SAC turned up to support this important event.

2. We were very much heartened by the latest results of the school reported by the Principal, Mrs Mary Bay. In particular that Bartley has advanced in ranking to band 4 ( an improvement from the previous band 6 );  been awarded the  coveted "Sustained Performance Award";  and is now among the top 60 schools in Singapore ( out of a total of around 160...! --detailed position not yet published by MOE ). Through the fine leadership, vision, and drive of the Principal, as well as the great support of the dynamic VP Tan Chye Na and the HODs..the school is on tract for better things.

3 After being in the doldrum for many years, Bartley has regained its sense of direction, purpose and dignity. It is now, after a very hard-fought and determined battle by all staff and students concerned, on the road to regain our once-proud position among the top schools in Singapore...as we were in the early 1960s...

4. While the school does very well, the Principal also was mindful of and thanked the help and support ( especially the very important scholarship awards ) given unstintively by our very conscientious and supportive OBA members. Salute to all of you.

5. On your behalf, I extended the OBA's  congratulations to the Principals and the staff and students for another year of superb performance.and wished the school many more very good years to come.
