Mr
Umar Abdul Hamid has more than 25 years of industrial experience in the areas of corporate and business developments and project management in Asia, Europe and Middle East . He has done several corporate acquisitions and divestments of companies dealing in engineering, construction and technology.

During his career as a Project Engineer at COGELEX (ALSTHOM Group, France) from 1981 to 1985, he had been involved in both local and overseas project in France, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

He also acquired his administrative services and business development experiences from 1989 to 1996 at the Singapore Polytechnic where he was a lecturer and moved up as its Business Development Manager.

Mr Umar was a member of the Parliament from 1991 to 1996 and currently the Honorary President of Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SMMCI), Vice-Chairman of Singapore Business Federation, member of Board of Trustees of Institute of South East Asian Studies (ISEAS), Chairman of MINDEF Advisory Board for Registration Committee.

In 1996, Mr Umar set up his own company and structured several deals with reputable public-listed company like the Comfort Group. He was also the shareholder and Director of PEROCOM Motors Pte L td and COMTRUCK Pte Ltd- the subsidiary companies of Comfort Group that distribute PERODUA vehicles and HICOM commercial trucks.

Presently, he is the main shareholder and Group Chairman and CEO of Reed Group Holdings Ltd and Executive Director of Strike Engineering Limited. He is also the Director of several subsidiaries of the two listed companies. He is a Harvard graduate and a Fulbright Scholar with degrees in Master of Education (MEd, Administration, Planning and Social Policy), Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Electrical Engineering from University of Arizona.

Believing in life-long learning, he is currently a candidate of the 3-year Owner / President Management Program at Harvard Business School.

He writes and speaks fluent French.
