Lieutenant - Colonel (Retd) Syed Ibrahim Almahdali

After leaving Bartley School in 1960, Lt- Col Syed Ibrahim Almahdali served two years as a teacher. In January 1963 he entered the Federation Military College, Sungei Besi (in the then country of Malaya), and later at the Officer Cadet School in Portsea, Australia.
Upon commissioning as an officer in Dec 1964, he was posted to the Second Battalion of the Singapore Infantry Regiment (2 SIR). When Singapore became part of the new nation of Malaysia, he participated in active military operations during the Indonesia “Confrontasi”.
Upon Singapore 's separation from Malaysia in August 1965, he became one of the pioneers in the newly constituted Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), and helped to shape and train its new members.
In all he spent 30 years of loyal and colourful service in the Singapore Armed Forces, and held many exciting postings such as Commander Lancer (Brunei Training Camp); Defence Attache' in Jakarta, Indonesia; Commander Reserved Training Centre; and Reserved Brigade Commander, as well as becoming the honorary ADC to the late President B Sheares.
Upon his retirement from the SAF in 1992, he became the General Manager (operations) for the Batamindo Executive Village (part of the Singapore Technologies organization) for 5 years, and later as Chief Executive Officer of the Sebana Golf and Marina Resort, in Johore, Malaysia.
Two years later, he bought and now runs an International Franchise food chain called House of Sundanese Food, currently located at Johore Bahru City Square, Johore.
Lt-Col Syed Ibrahim was recipient of several awards for his military service, and in 2002 was also made Associate Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management (AFAIM).
