COL Soh Guan Huat

Upon completing his “A” levels in 1976, COL Soh joined the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN).

Through the course of his distinguished career, COL Soh has served in various staff and operational commands. Notably, he had commanded three different RSN ships: a Patrol Craft, a Missile Gun Boat and a Landing Ship Tank. He also served as Commanding Officer of the Landing Ship Tank Squadron before being appointed as Commander Third Flotilla of the RSN Fleet. He is currently serving as Head Naval Curriculum in SAFTI Military Institutes.

As a member of the RSN, COL Soh participated in numerous local and overseas exercises and operations. Significant operations he participated include commanding the Task Group for the Search and Recover Operations in the Silkair MI 185 crash in 1997, and commanding the Task Group of Operation Blue Heron, the SAF peace-keeping mission in East Timor in 1999 / 2000.

COL Soh also planned the first and only circumnavigation of the globe by a RSN ship in 2000. 

Guan Huat obtained his Bachelor of Arts from the National University Singapore (NUS) in 1982. He then attended the US Marine Corps Command and Staff College in where he obtained his Master in Military Studies from the Marine Corps University. In 2001, he attended the Stanford-NUS Executive Program.

For his services in the RSN, COL Soh Guan Huat was awarded the SAF Good Services Medal (1984), the SAF Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (12 years) and (22 years) in 1988 and 1998 respectively. He was also awarded the SAF Overseas Service Medal in 2000 for his services in East Timor, and the Public Administration Medal (Military) Bronze in 2004.

He enjoys swimming, jogging and golf.
