Professor. S. Gopinathan is Professor and Vice Dean, Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice, National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
It is in Bartley, that Prof Gopinathan discovered his affinity for language and literature.
Gopinathan has published extensively in such areas as the development of education in Singapore, language policy issues, values education, teacher education and higher education in Singapore.
He has been President of the Educational Research Association ( Singapore ), Chairman, National Book Development Council of Singapore, and Managing Editor, Asia Pacific Journal of Education. In 2004 he received his 30 years Long Service Award from NTU.
He has served as a consultant to the World Bank, UNESCO, the Commonwealth Secretariat, universities in HK and Brunei and has been involved in several multinational research projects.
In 2001, he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the State University of New York at Buffalo. At the same time, he was also awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) by the Government of Singapore for his services to teacher education in Singapore.
