OUTSTANDING BARTLEYANS

Associate Professor Ramli Bin Osman
School of Mechanical and Production Engineering
Nanyang Technological University, Singapore
Class 1959 - 1964

Associate Professor Ramli spent the first five years of his primary education in a Malay stream school. Due to his relatively good academic performance, he was encouraged to transfer to an English medium school.

He has fond memories of the time he had at Bartley, such as going on bicycling excursions to the then ‘ulu' parts of Singapore and even a trip up Mt. Ophir with other Bartleyans. He was active in the MLDDS and was also a school prefect. He also represented Bartley in a few chess tournaments. For his A Levels, he did well enough to be offered a Colombo Plan scholarship to study mechanical engineering at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. He subsequently obtained a M. Sc. from the National University of Singapore.

Associate Professor Ramli worked as an engineer for the first twelve years of his career, culminating in an appointment as the Chief Engineer (Boiler Section) of a consulting firm. In 1981, he joined the Nanyang Technological Institute (now Nanyang Technological University) as a Senior Lecturer. Currently, he teaches heat transfer and thermodynamics courses at the university. He had made presentation in conferences and published several papers in journals on engineering related topics.

Associate Professor Ramli is one of the founding members of Mendaki, though now he is not as active in the organization as he was during its earlier years.
