COL (R) Neo Poh Chuan

COL (R) Neo joined the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) after 6 years in Bartley School.
He had an illustrious career serving 31 years and 6 months with the SAF. He started as a trainee in the pre-eminent first officer course at Singapore Armed Forces Training Institute (SAFTI) and was commissioned as an officer in 1967.
During his distinguished military career, COL (R) Neo held various key command, staff and instructional positions in the SAF. He was a battalion commander in the seventies, a brigade commander in the eighties, and a divisional commander in the nineties.
After his tour as a brigade commander, COL (R) Neo was posted as the Commandant, School of Advanced Training for Officers (SATO) to upgrade and improve the quality of the officer training.
Poh Chuan was also the first SAF officer to hold a key appointment in a United Nation Observation Mission, a direct reflection of his capability. He was the Chief Military Personnel Officer of the United Nations Iraq Kuwait Observation Mission for a 1-year period from April 1992.
COL (R) Neo also made significant contributions in organizing State functions. He was the Chairman, National Day Parade 1982 and Sub-Committee Chairman 1984 National Exhibition.
In his last appointment before his retirement as Head General Staff Inspectorate (GSI), Poh Chuan made significant contributions in enhancing the training and operational effectiveness of the Army units, and in improving the image of GSI.
For his contributions to the SAF, COL (R) Neo was conferred many SAF and State awards, including the Efficiency Medal, Commendation Medal (Military-Gold), Public Administration Medal (Military-Bronze), the SAF Overseas Service Medal and the United Nations Medal.
His philosophy on leadership is to lead by example, and he adopts Bartley School's motto - Facta Non Verba, as his motto in undertaking the many tasks in the SAF.
Currently retired from the SAF, he has his own business involving outdoor education on nature.
