Dr Anamah Tan

A shy student in Bartley, Dr Tan has since blossomed to a multi-faceted lady.
The articulate and affable Bartleyan, who runs her own law firm, has been at the forefront of issues on women and the family for more than 30 years.
This year, Dr Tan is the first Singapore woman to win a seat on the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
In 2003, she also became the first Singaporean to head arguably the world's oldest international women's organisation, the International Council of Women (ICW), a 100+ year old world body headquartered in Paris.
Dr Tan will continue to focus on gender issues in developing nations, especially efforts to eradicate poverty, clean water and stem trafficking of women.
During her career, she received many treasured accolades, some of which are: 2003 East Asia Millennium Women Peace Award for Humanitarian Services, SCWO Award 2002 for her contributions to the women groups in Singapore, Top Ten Y2000 Civil Marriage Celebrants Awards by the Ministry of Community Development & Sports, National Medal for Public Service Star in 1998 for her work with the women, the underprivileged and the disabled.
She is a grandmother of two and has a love for cooking and doing fun things with her friends.
